
Chengdu's Introduction International Exchanges between Chengdu and Its Friends
German Consul General in Chengdu Klaus Schmidt said that his country would strengthen the cooperation with Chengdu in culture and sports and continue hosting the Festival of German Cinema in Chengdu. In his eyes, Chengdu is an international metropolis full of vigor and vitality.
“This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the French Consulate General in Chengdu and the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the sister-city relationship between Chengdu and Montpellier. We will launch a series of celebrations including inviting French artists to give performances in Chengdu,” said Deputy French Consul General in Chengdu Adrien Cavey.
So far, Chengdu has established a sister-city relationship with 31 foreign cities around the world and many of them are from the G20 members.
In recent years, Chengdu is gaining increasing popularity among big names of the G20 members, who have visited the city one after another. All of them expressed to facilitate the cooperation between the city and their home countries.
Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel visited Chengdu on July 5-6, 2014. It was her seventh trip to China. “I know Chengdu is one of the most important cities in western China which is developing fast,” said Merkel at the opening ceremony for the China-Germany Urbanization Cooperation Forum, noting that Chengdu’s fast-growing economy is drawing global attention and has offered lots of possibilities for other parts of the world.
