Currently, the city targets to become an important national base for advanced manufacturing and modern service sector, in hopes of involving in the global division of labor and promoting regional industrial synergy.
Having long been a strategically important city for overseas and domestic companies to explore the market in southwest and western China, Chengdu's market reach has expanded to Central Asia, Europe and other parts of the world. According a report on global investment environment released by the World Bank in 2007, Chengdu had become a Benchmark City for Investment Environment in Inland China.
